HOW LONG WILL A FLAG LAST?
There is no exact answer; it depends on the weather, location,
airborne contamination and how often you fly your flag. The U.S. government
generally expects a nylon or cotton bunting flag to last about 90 days, based
on daily usage from sunrise to sunset - but not during periods of bad weather.
Tests have shown that a flag flown 24 hours a day might possibly last only 1/4
as long as one flown only in daylight.
Remember, your flag is a piece of cloth that works very hard.
Wind, water, sun and carelessness are the major enemies of your flag.
Reasonably good care can contribute greatly to the life of your flag.
Occasionally hand washing your flag in warm detergent water will prevent
pollutants from weakening the fabric. Always let your flag dry thoroughly
before storing. Mend the fly end at the first sign of fraying. Keep your
flagpole as clean as possible.
Our flags are made to give exceptional service, with proper
care. Since the factors that influence flag life vary with location, no two
flags will wear identically. The best way to extend your flag’s life is to
actually have three flags: one flying, one in the wash and one flown only on
special occasions. Flag fibers can actually benefit from periodic rest.
